Option Class Descriptions
French
this class, students will build on their elementary French skills, expanding vocabulary and grammar through themes connected to everyday life. They’ll strengthen their ability to understand, speak, read, and write in French while gaining a deeper appreciation for Francophone cultures.
Multisport
Multisport JH provides students with the opportunity to increase their skills and knowledge in a variety of sports and physical activities. This course offers a diverse selection of games and activities, including individual and cooperative games, net and wall games, frisbee games, relays and challenges, territory games, target games, as well as striking and fielding. Students will develop teamwork, sportsmanship, and physical literacy through participation in these activities.
Mastermind
Mastermind JH is a course designed to develop students' skills in creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving through the exploration of strategic social games. The course integrates objectives from multiple curriculums such as Health, Physical Education, English Language Arts, and Math, promoting cross-curricular competencies and fostering well-rounded development.
Drama
Lights, curtain, action! In this class, students will dive into the world of theatre through acting, improvisation, movement, and speech. They’ll build confidence, collaborate with others, and explore what it takes—both on stage and behind the scenes—to bring a production to life.
Mindfulness: A Catholic Perspective
Yoga and Mindfulness JH: A Catholic Perspective is a unique course designed to introduce students to the practice of yoga and mindfulness within a Catholic framework. This course emphasizes physical health, mental well-being, and spiritual growth, aligning with Physical Education and Catholic faith teachings. By integrating PE outcomes with aspects of Catholic spirituality, students learn to develop self-awareness, compassion, and a deeper connection to their faith and community
Band
This class, students will focus on learning a specific instrument and performing as part of a band. They’ll grow as musicians by developing skills in performance, listening, and music appreciation. Through practice and collaboration, students will explore a variety of musical styles and work toward excellence in instrumental music.
Art
What would I do if I were an artist? In this class, students will explore that question by experimenting with a variety of tools, materials, and media. They’ll express themselves creatively, develop artistic thinking, and learn to appreciate and analyze the work of other artists.
Active Living
Active Living JH is designed to promote the experience of movement in all aspects of life, encompassing physical, mental, emotional, and social dimensions. This course emphasizes active living and the integration of physical activity into daily life. Students will engage in a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities that foster overall fitness and well-being.
Creative Technology Exploration
Creative Technology Exploration is an engaging and hands-on course designed for Grade 7 and 8 students to explore the world of computers, coding, robotics, photography, and video/film. This course is aligned with the Alberta Program of Studies and aims to develop essential 21st-century skills while fostering creativity and innovation. Through a series of project-based learning experiences, students will gain a solid understanding of various technological concepts and tools, and will be empowered to express themselves creatively using cutting-edge technologies.
Career & Technology Foundations Explorations
Curious about careers and hands-on learning? In this CTS (Career and Technology Studies) Explorations class, students will dive into a variety of fields through short, hands-on projects. There will be multiple focuses throughout the course, such as photography, fashion, construction, and more, giving students a chance to explore their interests, develop practical skills, and connect classroom learning to real-world careers. It’s a great way to discover passions and possibilities for the future!
Foods
Foods JH is a course that explores Health, Recreation, and Human Services as they relate to food preparation and nutrition. Students will follow safety requirements, problem-solve in response to challenges, and develop a deeper understanding of the Canada Food Guide, nutrition, and general safety. They will also learn essential cooking and baking skills while exploring their interests and passions in the culinary world, making personal connections to potential career possibilities.
